2014-05-12 L’Osservatore Romano - Pope Francis joined the international mobilization calling for the freedom of the more than 200 students abducted by the terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria several weeks ago. Joining the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, the Pontiff called everyone to join “in prayer for the immediate release of the schoolgirls kidnapped in Nigeria”. The bordering countries Chad, Cameroon and Niger are meanwhile providing satellite images to help determine the location of the students. The Government of Abuja is alleged to have established "indirect contact" with the terrorists, but so far this contact has not produced the desired outcome. Boko Haram has placed mines and other explosives throughout the area where the girls are being held captive, in order to prevent their freedom. The French President, François Hollande, has in the meantime announced that this Saturday, a security summit for Nigeria could be held in Paris.
