Archdiocese of Hanoi is in mourning with Poland.

A solemn memorial service and mass has taken placed at the Hanoi Cathedral to pray for the Polish presidential couple and other victims of the April 10 plane crash in Russia.

On April 15, the Archbishop of Hanoi had led the congregation in commemoration and prayers for president Lech Kaczynski, the first lady and those who lost their lives in the tragic accident which shocked the world and served as a reminder of how fragile life can be. " The passing of the President, his beloved wife as well as of highly ranking government officials and other victims had deeply touched the hearts of not only the Polish people but also of many throughout the world", archbishop Joseph Ngo Quang Kiet told the Polish delegation.

Invited to the English memorial service and mass officiated by Fr Alfonse Pham Hung were Polish Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Roman Iwaszkiewicz, diplomats and staff members of the Polish Embassy in Hanoi. Names of each and every victims on the fateful flight on April 10 were anounced by the Ambassador during the mass.

Prior to the mass, Archbishop Joseph Ngo Quang Kiet - on behalf of the whole archdiocese- had asked the ambassador to convey his profound sympathy to the Polish people and the Catholic Church during this sorrowful event. He also promised to keep praying for the victims and the whole country of Poland. " May the grace and comfort of God be with you all", the archbishop prayed.
