Kościół w Wietnamie od swoich początków jest naznaczony cierpieniem i skąpany we krwi męczenników. A mimo to rozwija się i nabiera mocy. W czasie wielkiego prześladowania w pierwszej połowie XIX wieku, trwającego ponad 50 lat (1798-1850), spośród 300 tys. katolików śmiercią męczeńską zginęło ich 100 tysięcy. Najbardziej zadziwiającą rzeczą jest fakt, że z ocalałej liczby katolików w ciągu 150 lat społeczność Kościoła wzrosła do ok. 8 milionów. Takiego wzrostu nie tłumaczy w żaden sposób przyrost naturalny. Jest to znak, że Kościół wietnamski cieszy się specjalnym błogosławieństwem.
Współczesne wiadomości o szykanach, prześladowaniach i represjach trwających pod komunistycznym reżimem napełniają nas bólem, chęcią pomocy i okazania wszelkiej solidarności. Listy i inne apele polskich katolików oraz kościelnych instytucji napełniają otuchą katolików wietnamskich. Nie wiemy, jaki będzie ich wpływ na komunistyczne władze, może niewielki, ale jedno jest pewne, że w ostatecznym rozrachunku Kościół w Wietnamie jest przyszłością całego Kościoła. Tam rodzą się obficie nowe powołania, tam dojrzewa wytrwałość wiary, tam rozwija się ścisła wspólnota między laikatem a duchowieństwem. Katolicy wietnamscy z ogromną wdzięcznością i entuzjazmem przyjmują wiadomość o polskiej solidarności w modlitwie. Powinniśmy dalej tę łączność manifestować, ale też powinniśmy czuć się uprzywilejowani, że możemy modlitwą wspierać katolików wietnamskich, gdyż w ten sposób współpracujemy z ludźmi wybranymi przez Boga. Nasza historia zaś pokazuje, że komunizm chodzi na krótkich nogach i daleko nie zajdzie.
They are the future for the Church
The Church in Vietnam since the beginnings is marked by sufferings and is bathed in the martyrs’ blood. Despite of it She is growing and getting spiritual power. During the great persecution in the first half of the XIX century, lasting about 50 years (1798-1850), out of 300 thousand of Vietnamese Catholics 100 thousand martyrs shed their blood witnessing to Christ. The most amazing ist the fact, that out of 200 thousand Catholic survivors during 150 years the Catholic community has grown up to 8 millions now. Such a growth can not be explained simple by the natural causes. It is the sign that the Church in Vietnam enjoys special God’s blessing.
Current reports of chicannery, persecutions and repressions suffered from the communist regime fill Polish Catholic with pain and evoke desire to help and show our solidarity. The letters and any other appeals of individuals and of catholic institutions give courage and hope to the Vietnamese Catholics. We don’t know, what impact theese actions will have on communist authorities, maybe not too big, but one thing is sure, that in the final effect the Catholic Church in Vietnam is the future for the whole Body of Christ. It ist there, where are the abundancy of priestly and religious vocations, where the faith is getting stronger, where there is a closer unity between laity and clergy. Yes, it is true, that Vietnamese Catholics with great gratitude receive any outside news of Polish solidarity in prayer. We should continue to keep in touch, but at the same time we need to acknowledge how privileged we are to be able to support the Vietnamese Catholics, because then we are cooperating with the people chosen by God. Our history demonstrates, that the communism walks on the short legs, and it can’t walk too far.

Listy i inne apele polskich katolików oraz kościelnych instytucji napełniają otuchą katolików wietnamskich. Nie wiemy, jaki będzie ich wpływ na komunistyczne władze, może niewielki, ale jedno jest pewne, że w ostatecznym rozrachunku Kościół w Wietnamie jest przyszłością całego Kościoła. Tam rodzą się obficie nowe powołania, tam dojrzewa wytrwałość wiary, tam rozwija się ścisła wspólnota między laikatem a duchowieństwem.
